So this tree in our apartment complex has been dead for quite some time now, and we’ve been wondering when something was going to be done about it. Turns out that day is today. However, did our management company hire arborists or professional landscapers to do the work? Nope! It’s one of the jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none handymen, climbed halfway up the tree, loosely lashed to the tree in with a questionable-looking safety harness, sunglasses instead of safety goggles, balancing and stretching out to hack away at branches, one-handed, with a chainsaw. No safety barriers, and one kid running to the playground (just out of frame to the left) almost got beaned when a branch came down. There were a couple times I was convinced he was going to cut his own foot off, as a branch came loose and the chainsaw dropped and swung back towards his body, still running. The whole thing is just a horriffic accident waiting to happen.
